Not to brag, but when ChatGPT was released I was so proud of being a user since Day 1! *wink* Although I didn’t use it as much when I was a writer (the irony, I know), I am using it more often now that I’m a designer.
But wait, while I believe AI can help in designs, I don’t believe it can replace human designers anytime soon because, for me, human connection, a deep understanding of the market/users, and the overall efficiency of design need an “actual” brain and talent. So yes, AI can give us designs and templates, but an actual designer still makes sense. I hope I’m not just being biased here but that’s how I view it.
Anyway, here are some ways I’m using ChatGPT as a designer.
Design briefs
If you’re running out of content ideas, you go to ChatGPT, right? The same thing for design. Outside work, I design a lot of stuff and so I sometimes run out of ideas. But with the right prompt, you can gain many examples.
In the screenshot, I asked ChatGPT to give me design briefs and it included the creative direction and what kind of business/industry I should do.
Placeholder texts
Lorem Ipsum? Please, not in the world of AI. Instead of those boring, repetitive Lorem Ipsum texts you generate, ask ChatGPT to create placeholder texts for you. Some examples are taglines, about, and product descriptions.
Faux business names
Of course, to create your branding or any design project, you need a faux business name. And before ChatGPT, it was one of the things that would get me stuck. But through ChatGPT, you can get random brand names to use. Just double-check if they aren’t a real business to avoid confusion and if there are some trademarks or any intellectual property jazz involved.
Design layout
As you can see, ChatGPT said you need a tool or designer to create the design. But of course, it provided a guide. If you’re new to design, you might need to see the funnel or layout of the web page but if you have an experience in web designing or you know how users interact with the website, you’re free to skip this.
You see, ChatGPT is only going to steal your job if you solely rely on it. If you let it write the article for you without you thinking anymore, it will replace you. But in other areas, like design, there are so many ways to use it as a guide. It will save you time and will make your presentation/project look more realistic, making it easier for stakeholders to visualize your vision.
